Nut Milk

People mocked my nut milk bag purchase despite this being something I’d wanted to buy for AGES but had never quite gotten around to it. I have to say buying this was literally one of the single most exciting days of my life, only trumped by the fact that I actually made my own nut milk quickly a few days later!!

Are you Bulletproof?

Everyone in the paleo community seems to buzzing about the Bulletproof Coffee. This one is a pretty easy choice for me because I don’t like the taste of coffee at all but still felt it was something worth looking in to!

So what is the bulletproof coffee? Well it’s basically an antioxidant rich coffee, blended with grass-fed butter and a bit of oil (coconut oil can be used).

Why would you want to drink it? It sounds like the fattiest thing ever and it is but it’s good fats, it has all the benefits of healthy milk fat without the damaging denatured casein proteins found in cream, so you don’t need to worry too much about it as long as you bear in mind that the 200 – 300 calories used in this drink will need to be removed from elsewhere within your diet, and it can be substituted for your actual breakfast if you want. Anyway, the reason WHY you would drink this for breakfast is quite simply because it will train your body to burn fat for energy all day long and it helps to keep your energy levels stabilised for around 6 hours.

Bulletproof Coffee

The more I look into this the more I actually want to try it despite my not liking the taste of coffee! I love the smell and want to like it and am hoping a couple of scoops of kerrygold butter will be a miracle worker and make me like coffee! I’ll let you know how I get on with that!

Water Rules!

I will always be honest. Drinking the daily recommended 8 glasses of water a day is a real struggle for me. I much prefer hot drinks like tea mainly because I always feel the cold and like to wrap my hands around a nice steaming mug rather than an ice cold glass! But I’ve impressed my colleagues so much with my switch over to water that I felt this was a blog worthy subject because other people may find it difficult too.

So amongst the benefits we all know about already such as water makes your skin better, it’s better for your organs and flushes all the nasties out of your body and keeps you hydrated for those exercise sessions, well it can also help you lose weight. By drinking icy water (8 glasses a day) you could burn up to 70 calories a day!  The reason being that your body has to use energy to heat the water (think about it you don’t pee ice so it has to get warmed up some how!!)

By grabbing an ice cold water as soon as you get up you are also giving your metabolism a kick start for the day. If you pop a bottle of water in the fridge you can hop out of bed have a quick drink and crack on with your day!

I also find it useful to drink water 30 minutes before a meal as it fills you up and prevents you from overeating.
