Paleo Sausage Stew

Sausage StewWhen the night’s draw in early and it’s cold outside I am dying to eat hearty warming stews, here’s the latest paleo recipe for you to try; a nice and spicy sausage stew that takes about 40 minutes to cook, or it’s easily cooked in your slow cooker too, all you need to do is step 1 and then add everything to the crock pot in go. If you don’t want the spice then don’t add the chillies!

Crockpot Chili Recipe

Crockpot chili

My crockpot / slow cooker love affair is in full swing and I seriously can’t get enough of it! When I first started using my slow cooker I noticed that my sauces were still really watery and I really like a nice thick consistency so if you’re having the same problem here’s a little tip; 30 minutes before you want to serve up turn your slow cooker up to high and remove the lid, this should help thicken the sauce up quite nicely 🙂 Anyway, here’s my latest slow cooker creation:

Ingredients:

  • 500g minced beef
  • 3 cloves of garlic grated
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 carton of pasata
  • 1 tbsp of tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp lea and perrins worcestershire sauce
  • 1 red pepper chopped into strips
  • 1 tin of drained kidney beans
  • 2 tsp of chili and cacao nibs
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method:

Doesn’t get easier than this; put everything in your slow cooker, give it a stir and cook on high for 4 – 5 hours.

I served this with some baked sweet potatoes but it would be just as tasty with cauliflower rice, quinoa or wholegrain rice.

New Year, New Roo

Take a look at this before and after photo. This is me at the beginning of 2014 and one atWeight Loss 1st Jan 2014 - 23rd Nov 2014 EDITED the end of 2014. Here’s my story and how it can help you reach your goals for a happier, healthier and fitter 2015:

Throughout my mid to late twenties I started putting on weight, I hasten to add that I was never obese or what I would consider as fat, I was a very average size 12, I’d always had a slender waist but my butt and thighs were a problem area and had made a few attempts at spot reduction on those problem areas – turns out spot reduction is a myth but there will be more on that in another post! I then started making ill advised excuses and made the assumption that my body shape was just down to genetics and that I was just going to have to accept that, and that I would never be able to wear skinny jeans with confidence. I was starting to feel self-conscious that I couldn’t wear what I felt was fashionable and I could never really make my mark on current trends because my body shape was holding me back. I think it’s really important to point out here that at no point did anyone tell me or make me feel like my body shape or weight was bad, I just did not feel comfortable in my own skin anymore and I wanted a change. You should only make changes based on how you feel and what you want, never based on someone else’s opinion of you.

Food / Diet Swap Outs

Some of the things I have listed replacements for aren’t necessarily bad foods, like eggs for example, but if you aren’t able to eat them or want to find an alternative then those are also included.

My Protein – Elle True Diet Protein Powder Review

elle true diet

Back in October I decided to start using My Proteins’ Elle True Diet Protein Shake. I had plateaued in my weight loss and needed something to give me that extra helping hand to staying on track and to also give me the extra protein I needed to improve my muscle for the hard training I was putting my body through.

I had been on holiday and had been a little bit naughty with my diet (I mean I had been working hard for 9 whole months prior to that so I deserved those cheeky cocktails by the pool as a treat!). Due to that splurge I had a lot of water retention in that week that I came back, so I decided to use the Elle True Diet Protein Shake with skimmed milk as a breakfast substitute.

In that first week I saw a huge drop in weight from 8st 6lbs down to 8st 2lbs however the weeks following that first big decrease the protein shake has helped me remain at a more consistent weight fluctuating by 1lb either way of my first week results with my lowest weight reaching 8st.

Ethiopian Berbere Spiced Chicken with Cauliflower Rice

Ethiopian Berbere Chicken

So I’ve just come back from holiday and I haven’t been following my diet whilst I was away. I was on holiday after all and it was time for treat! And what’s really important to point out here is that I have been working out pretty much every day since January, so eating naughty foods for 2 weeks isn’t going to undo all of that hardwork, it will only undo it if I continue to eat like that when I get home! I very much live by the rule of work hard and play hard. So to get my butt in to gear and kick start my diet and fitness routine again I have made this really nice and juicy Ethiopian berbere spiced chicken with some cauliflower rice. I have also got a new obsession with green peppers so I am loading those in to everything I eat right now! Anyway, keep reading for the ingredients and how to pull this simple meal together. This recipe is all Paleo so is a really healthy meal. Enjoy!

Elle True Diet Trial

elle true diet

My Protein have very kindly sent me a sample of their Elle True Diet Protein powder for me to trial and review. I am super psyched about giving this a go and can’t wait to give you guys my feedback. After being away on holiday for a couple of weeks and being a teeny bit naughty with my diet and doing next to no exercise at all, it’s time to kick start my healthy lifestyle again. And what better way to start than by adding some protein powder in to my paleo (ish) healthy eating regime. I will be updating you guys on the way, and will include stats and measurements to confirm if this truly does work as a diet and weight loss aid. At the moment I am going to start by having this as a a shake with milk as a substitute for breakfast, but I will also have a play about and see if it can be added to some cheeky little desserts along the way. I also want to add that as always I am not solely relying on the protein powder as a miracle weight loss tool, I will continue to eat a healthy well balanced diet as well as doing my daily exercise/">HIIT workouts. Wish me luck and keep an eye out for my updates!

Starting Stats are:

  • Weight: 8st 5.6
  • Waist: 25.5 inches
  • Hips: 36 inches
  • Thighs: 21 inches
  • Bust: 30 inches
  • Caliper body fat: 22.7%
